Recommended Equipment List for CU in the Rockies

The following is a list of gear and equipment required for CU in the Rockies.

  • hiking boots (broken in)
  • tennis shoes (to wear in camp to prevent destruction of vegetation)
  • river shoes (i.e. Teva-type shoe or an old pair of tennis shoes you don't mind getting wet)
  • wool or non-cotton hiking socks (at least two pair)
  • hiking and rafting shorts
  • t-shirts (at least 2)
  • light jacket to use as a windbreaker/shell
  • heavy sweater or pullover (wool, fleece, synchilla)
  • long pants (wool, synthetic material, blue jeans, wind pants, etc.)
  • capilene or polypropelene long underwear (both top and bottom)
  • warm ski/stocking hat and gloves
  • baseball cap
  • 2 water bottles or canteens (each about 1 L, Nalgene bottles work well)
  • toilet kit (medicines, toothpaste, tooth brush, etc.)
  • personal items (camera, pen & paper, book, etc.)
  • small flashlight and extra batteries
  • sunglasses
  • sunscreen (minimum rating of SPF 15)
  • aspirin/ibuprofen (please bring your personal supply as we cannot give these out)
  • nonbreakable cup, spoon, fork, plate and bowl (Remember these! They are often forgotten)
  • swim suit for rafting
  • mosquito repellant (preferably non-aerosol)

The following items can be provided by the CU Outdoor Program if you do not have them:*

  • sleeping bag
  • sleeping pad
  • tent
  • backpack (5600-6200c.i. capacity)
  • rain jacket
  • rain pants

Please do not bring the following:

  • cell phone
  • walkman/portable CD/DVD player
